So exactly what is a Smart Home?
Many homes already have some form of Smart technology, be it a Smart Doorbell or Smart TV but, a Smart Home is a home that has been designed to integrate all of the homes systems through a smart wiring or structured cabling package. The end result is a Smart Home, not just a lot of individual smart devices.
A home control system simplifies the use of your homes digital services and devices, so that everyone in the home can enjoy a simplified interaction with multiple systems.

All of this is achievable from the push of a button, from an iPhone or iPad to an in-wall touch screen or even a smart light switch.
Integrating all of your homes systems with a structured cabling design is easy. Instead of locating your security system panel in the walk-in robe of the Primary Suite and your TV splitter in the roof somewhere, your NBN or Data all terminating on the Garage wall next to where you park your car, everything in considered and in one Smart location.
This is commonly known as the structured cabling Hub. It’s usually installed in the Garage but can go in a Store room, or an Equipment room, or anywhere really that can accommodate the number of systems in your home.
There are many ways we can assist in the design to achieve a highly functional end result. If properly considered as part of your project, what you will end up with is a home that has been wired considering future technologies, a Smart Home, a home well prepared for current needs and future expansion.
When is the best time to ensure your new home is a Smart Home?
If you’re a new home builder or renovating an established home the best time to start your structured cabling design is before construction.
The importance of a structured cabling design is too often overlooked. We suggest that the structured cabling design is as important as any of the other design elements in your new home. Many hours are often spent on paint colours, door handles and landscaping but, very little time is spent considering a structured cabling design.
Even small things like planning in advance for a wall mounted TV with better sound that what the TV comes with, or a home audio system with speaker wiring to the alfresco and living areas, or a surround sound system in the home theatre can makes life more enjoyable when you move in.
In addition, systems such as the home security, home surveillance including home cameras and the home access control should all be considered and if required included in the structured cabling design before construction commences.
If you’re building a new home, renovating an established home, the best time to get your home wired to be a smart home is during construction.
